Funter Bay, Admiralty Island

After leaving Excursion Inlet, we rode the tide in from Icy Strait to Chatham Strait. There were humpback whales outside Swanson Harbor and Point Couverdon. The wind was gusty up to 25 knots, waves 3-4 feet. (Not predicted on our weather apps or the National Weather Service!) We decided to head to Funter Bay to meet up with our friends on Airship. We ended up staying 2 nights rafted up together. Really fun to catch up! And the wind was still howling outside the bay (with some leaking in...)

Salmon with Laura's Bang Bang sauce on it, rice and Cauliflower Salad from Smitten kitchen recipe.

The next day, David set the halibut pole out the back of the boat and caught one! In his slippers!

The mighty halibut pole, a gift from my Dad to David. (Photo courtesy Laura Domela.)

No fish guts forward of that line!

He measured 34 inches. Just right!

Naked halibut.

Some for dinner, and some for the freezer.

Fresh crab toasts by Laura with her Bang Bang sauce. Delicious appetizer!

Fresh halibut, using a NYT recipe Laura shared, called One-Pan Roasted Halibut with Cherry Tomatoes. Very easy and delicious! Laura made sautéed spinach and zucchini to accompany the fish.

Sunset.

About Us

The salt water has been part of our lives for over 40 years, and we have owned sailboats for most of those.  We love the PNW and all that it has to offer with the beautiful Salish Sea, access to the Pacific Ocean and the wildlife that inhabit these areas.  We have the opportunity to expand our usual areas of exploration this year, and will depart May 24, 2021 for SE Alaska.
