More Exploration

Our next stop was Sanborn Canal in Port Houghton. We saw this salmon tug-of-war on a long dinghy exploration of the inner bay. An early morning departure was necessary to navigate a shallow, fast-flowing, sinuous narrows before it opened up into a large bay filled with wildlife.

Marbled Murrelet (L) and Mergansers (B)

Notice all the seals spying on the Marbled Murrelet (or us?).

Bonaparte's Gull (L).

Lunch and then off to go fishing.

While we were anchored enjoying happy hour, a whale (not this one) joined us, circling around the inlet and lunging out of the water a hundred yards off our stern. Magic!

An early morning departure gives us the most time to play and explore Thomas Bay.

Starfish survey first.

Then a hike along Cascade Creek.

Back to snug and cozy Dog Star.

Time to head to Petersburg.

Net sheds along the waterfront.

Art in front of the book store.

Roadside wildflowers: Purple-Flowered (Wild) Garlic and Fox-and-Cubs.

Last minute repair before goodbyes.

About Us

The salt water has been part of our lives for over 40 years, and we have owned sailboats for most of those.  We love the PNW and all that it has to offer with the beautiful Salish Sea, access to the Pacific Ocean and the wildlife that inhabit these areas.  We have the opportunity to expand our usual areas of exploration this year, and will depart May 24, 2021 for SE Alaska.
