Always on the lookout for logs and other flotsam, we spotted a UFO (Unidentified Floating Object) well in advance upon entering Kalinin Bay in Salisbury Sound. It seemed to be moving, but what was it?

Yes indeed-Mr. Brown Bear! We planned to stop at this bay just outside of Sitka for crabbing and possibly a hike to a beach on the gulf of Alaska.

Mr. Bear said no to hiking. We stuck to crabbing.

We looked forward to returning to Sitka as this was our favorite port in Southeast Alaska and a planned rendez-vous with Airship and her crew.

Sitka is easy to explore on foot or with our folding bikes.

Art abounds.

We took another peaceful stroll through the totem park, passing a hatchery along the way at a science center. These fish are jostling to get upstream (and into a fish trap) where they were sorted for egg/sperm harvesting.

A lovely dinner at an unexpected tapas restaurant, Ludvig's Bistro, included scallops and calamari and a sunset view of the harbor.

We met up with our friends Kevin and Craig (below) and Laura from Airship.

Airship and Dog Star left the next morning for a week of buddy boating adventures.

About Us

The salt water has been part of our lives for over 40 years, and we have owned sailboats for most of those.  We love the PNW and all that it has to offer with the beautiful Salish Sea, access to the Pacific Ocean and the wildlife that inhabit these areas.  We have the opportunity to expand our usual areas of exploration this year, and will depart May 24, 2021 for SE Alaska.
