Leaving Petersburg, we travelled through Frederick Sound once again, a hotbed of whale activity. Soon we were amongst dozens of Humpback Whales and our goal this time was the perfect tail picture.

Whoops, need to start sooner...

Notice the little Marbled Murrelets.

Whoops, let's try that again.

Ah, the graceful follow-through.

Here's a few more.

We continued on to spend the evening in Chapin Bay.

After dodging this tug and tow, we re-visited beautiful Red Bluff Bay...

and its beautiful amphitheater of mountains

and waterfall.

Exiting the next morning through the narrow entrance, we encountered fog.

Takatz Bay was a short hop away and a lovely place to explore and fish.

ree

This is as far as we can go up this quintessential Alaskan river at high tide.

The shoreline provided excellent exploring as well.

ree

Wandering Fleabane (daisy family).

ree

Huckleberries and Salmon Berries.

ree

Other inhabitants (bears) find these delights attractive as well, the dug out Skunk Cabbage root evidence of a very recent forager. We boarded our dinghy a short time later.

ree

We continued on with our survey of life at Takatz bay, albeit less aggressive life forms.

Next time to sample a little deeper.

Success!

About Us

The salt water has been part of our lives for over 40 years, and we have owned sailboats for most of those.  We love the PNW and all that it has to offer with the beautiful Salish Sea, access to the Pacific Ocean and the wildlife that inhabit these areas.  We have the opportunity to expand our usual areas of exploration this year, and will depart May 24, 2021 for SE Alaska.
